These past two weeks, I have created and printed QR code stickers for my book that will take readers to the English Audio on my website. I have also started preparing my presentations for the Fellows Fair and the final presentation.
As this is my second-to-last blog post, I would like to take the time to thank my mentors, who have been instrumental to the completion of this project and so generous with their time and expertise. A special thanks to my grandma, Mrs. Pamela Abruzzo, whose love of French sparked my own. She has spent so much time and energy helping me craft this book. Another special thanks to my French teacher of the last four years, Mrs. Rodica Townshend, for teaching me so much and mentoring me on this project. Lastly, I would like to thank my Fellows advisor, Ms. Das, who supported me throughout every step of this process. In the last two weeks, I finished my English audio!!! It turned out to be about 30 minutes long. I read each page aloud, then inserted a page-turning audio I recorded between each page to signal to listeners when each page is done. I also left gaps in my audio when readers come across a page with no words, so they can appreciate the illustrations. Mr. Donn taught me how to upload my GarageBand recording as an MP3 and then upload it to SoundCloud. From there, I embedded a link to my Soundcloud audio on my website. My next step is creating a QR code to my website, then adding that QR code as a sticker into my books, so readers have a quick and easy way to access the English Audio.
These past two weeks, I have been working on my audio recording! I talked to my Donn about how to put together an audio recording. He was gracious enough to offer me a really cool audio recording set up, with a fancy microphone that attaches to my desk, and a red box that controls the sound. I make my audio recordings on Garage Band and I am about halfway through my English version. I record page by page, then put an audio between each page that sounds like me flipping a page.
Over the past two weeks, I have begun working on the next step of my project: creating my English audio version. My plan is to first record my audio version, page by page, in English. I will upload this audio to my website and add a QR code sticker in my book, which will direct readers to the audio on my website. I talked to Mr. Donn and set up a meeting for us to go over the logistics of creating an audio. Our plan is that after we go over the logistics, he will provide me with some equipment to bring home. This way, I can record in my house where I can ensure the audio will have no background noise.
I'm excited for this next step! My biggest update over the past two weeks has been that I submitted my final draft PDF of my children's book. These past two weeks have been quite tedious, as my mentors and I have been combing through my book for grammatical, linguistic, and layout errors. Since my last blog post, I have made over 100 edits to my book. Some edits have been as small as deleting an extra space between words, and some have been as silly as adding eyebrows to a character on a page. My book now totals 47 pages! Now that my book PDF is sent in to be printed, I can focus on making my English audio version, which I will add to my website. This way, my book becomes more accessible, as readers who can't read French can follow along in English.
I am thrilled to announce that I have a draft of my book, which I submitted to Ms. Das today! Over the past two weeks, I have spent a lot of time working on how to combine my text and illustrations on my book pages in a way that is visually appealing and clean. I am working with Ms. Gina Dywer, a digital designer who is helping me with the layout of my book. While my book needs some minor, final revisions, I can say I am very close to being ready to send my book to publishing. After that, I will move into the audio recording section of my project.
Throughout the past two weeks, I have finished all of my drawings and sent them to Ms. Gina Dwyer. She will help me lay out my illustrations and text on the pages of my book! In addition, I also made a coverpage illustration (seen in the last slide below), a dedication page, and a thank-you page for my book. I should have my first draft of the completed book soon, and I am so excited to see how it comes together! Since my last blog post, I have continued with my drawings. I currently have 5 left, which means I am so close! These past 2 weeks, I have drawn scenes in the final destination of Do’s journey, the STAFF. These images have been fun because this location is the culmination of Do’s whole journey. This place is full of all the colors of the rainbow, since this is a place where all the notes on the scale end up together. Now, through trial and error, Do is slowly figuring out that when he works together with those around him in "The Staff" and sings with them, they become the melody, the things he has been searching. I can’t wait until I finish my drawings so I can start seeing how they come together on the pages! Since my last blog post, I have prepared a Fellows presentation and drawn some new drawings. It has been fun to explore the City of Rest because in this town, the music note is shaped differently, as it represents a rest note. Since I wanted to make this book simple, all of my note characters are quarter notes. These notes are the most recognizable and easiest to understand. This means that the rest I chose to draw was a quarter rest to remain cohesive with my other characters. Since she is shaped so differently and her town is all pink, this was my favorite note to draw! I can’t wait to keep working! In my drawings right now, Do and his friends have reached the final destination on his map, the Staff! |
